Unique to the region are also the "Krampuslauf" - a century old tradition of driving out the evil spirits of the winter. The scene is replayed in many towns and villages throughout the Salzkammergut when men, dressed in costumes of scraggy fur and fearsome masks, parade loudly through the streets, scaring anyone who comes into their path. 

Another highlight that you can take part in is the "Kripperlroas" - another custom unique to Salzkammergut. On foot, in horse-drawn carriages or by boat, your journey takes you from one hand-made Nativity scene to the next. In this way you explore the region surrounding Ebner's Waldhof and discover the wealth of traditional craftsmanship in the region.

Probalby the most famous of Salzburg's markets and just 20 minutes by car from Ebner's Waldhof. The market's impressive location in front of Salzburg Cathedral and the historic Residenz building in the heart of the Old Town and the huge variety of stalls are what make this Christmas Market to special. kt.

Wolfgangsee Lake Advent

Just a few minutes awy from Ebner's Waldhof by car you will find the first stalls of the Wolfgangsee Lake Advent in St. Gilgen. Here the village has chosen Baroque as the theme for their market which gives this market its unique flair. Further along the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee you come to the idyllic village of Strobl where a beautiful lake-side setting and a living, life-size Nativity Scene awaits you. And in St. Wolfgang candle and torch light steeps the historic streets into glowing Christmas market wonderland. The three markets are unique but they all have the dark waters of wintery Lake Wolfgang in common.

Royal Advent in Bad Ischl

1,000 twinkling lights illuminate the imperial streets of Bad Ischl in Advent. A highlight in the pre-Christmas month is the handcrafts exhibition and market in the "Trinkhalle" in the centre of town. This market has been attracting visitors to the beautiful spa town for more than 30 years.

Christmas Market in Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary

At the Gut Aiderbichl Christmas Market, the inspiring and beautifully-decorated animal sanctuary becomes a living Nativity scene in Advent. The specially organised seasonal events and the shimmer of lights illuminating this fairy-tale farm making it a wonderous place to visit.
