Each year the Lake Fuschl Crossing offers participants two alternative stretches: On the longer stretch swimmers have to overcome the 4.2 km from one end of the lake to the other and on the shorter stretch 2.1 km across the lake. In addition to the amazing sporting achievements of the athletes and the fantastic backdrop of Lake Fuschl, the event excels in its excellent organisation. Every year more and more swimmers are attracted to the race and the compelling need to conquer the lake.
The starting point is the public beach (Strandbad) in Hof bei Salzburg. Around 200 participants run into the water with a single aim: To reach the other end of the lake. Once the swimmers have donned their wetsuits, the only thing they have to concentrate on are the gruelling 4.2 kilometres of water that lay in front of them and the 51 minute record that they need to beat. Swimming aids such as flippers are not permitted. For those who aren't quite ready for the full length of the lake there is a Lake Fuschl Crossing Light of only 2.1 kilometres.
