The most beautiful hiking trails in the Salzkammergut Lake District

Hiking to the Krippenstein Mountain

The Dachstein mountain range is the eastern most range of the Alps reaching a height of almost 3,000 metres. The numerous hiking routes and climbing trails that lead you through stunning mountain pastures and impressive peaks are considered some of the most beautiful in the Salzkammergut Lake District.

The valley station of the Dachstein cable car is reached from Ebner's Waldhof in around an hour. This is the starting point for exciting hiking tours of the Krippenstein Mountain or "Stoa" as it is known to by the locals.

A highlight in the Dachstein Mountain Range - the "5 Fingers" viewing platform

The 5 Fingers viewing platform is an absolute highlight that shouldn't be missed when you visit the Krippenstein Mountain. Five different platforms jut out from the craggy rock face over the abyss offering visitors grandiose views of Hallstatt Lake below them, the surrounding mountain panoramas and a real chance to test their courage.

World Heritage Spiral at 2,100 metres above sea level on the Krippenstein  Peak

On the way to the 5 Fingers viewing point you will pass the spiral viewing tower on the Krippenstein Peak. Don't forget to take your camera with you because these are the kind of views that holidays are made of.

Family-friendly Heilbronner round walk

In order to make the ascent easier, you can take the Krippenstein cable car up that carries you high above craggy rock faces to the start of the walk. From here you walk through impressive karst landscapes to the Heilbronner Cross. Continue on through wonderful mountain pastures which will take you back to the cable car station.
