Lions, zebras and prairie dogs sighted in Salzburg

Salzburg Zoo in Hellbrunn

On the outskirts of Salzburg to the south of the city 800 animals have found a home in a zoo that is charmingly located between the splendid Hellbrunn Palace and the impressive baroque fountains in the palace grounds.

Hellbrunn zoo is just the right size for a family day out.  Big enough to house Rhinos, tigers, bears and wolves, as well as tropical houses for exotic lizards, snakes and alligators as well as an aquarium and a pets' corner for where the kids get the chance to stroke and feed mini-goats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

As you enter the zoo, handcarts are available for visitors to use as a comfortable way of carrying rucksacks and coats, and perhaps later in the day, tired children. The zoo is set into an impressive mountain rock face offering native and foreign species an interesting and natural habitat.
