Ski resorts in the Salzkammergut Lake District.
Skiing areas near Salzburg.
The Salzkammergut region is not just the right destination for summer swimmers and sunbathers, hikers and wellness seekers, but also for skiing enthusiasts. The Waldhof is in an exceptional location giving you the chance to explore various different local ski resorts all within easy driving distance: like the skiing areas of Gaissau Hintersee, Postalm or Zwölferhorn. The Waldhof also offers its guests a free bus shuttle to the family ski resort Gaissau Hintersee and the cross-country skiing centre in Faistenau.
Postalm ski area
The second largest high altitude plateau in the Alps is just a 40-minute drive from Fuschl am See and in winter a great family ski resort. The pistes range from easy to intermediate and are served by 5 T-bar lifts. The Postalm is also a great cross-country skiing area for more experienced skiers with more than 20 km of trails. The altitude of the plateau means that it is snow sure from December to the end of April and can be highly recommended for skiers, walkers and Nordic skiers. Every Friday Herbert Ebner accompanies his guests on a trip to the Postalm - he knows where the best restaurants, runs and views are!
Ski Region Hintersee-Gaissau
This is a true family skiing paradise just 15 minutes drive from Fuschl. The area offers 40 km of well-prepared pistes for beginners and intermediates, 3 chairlifts and 5 T-bar lifts. It is the most extensive ski resort in the Lake Fuschl Holiday Region. Hintersee-Gaissau is blessed with an excellent snow record and is usually open from December to the end of March. In the winter a daily shuttle bus brings Waldhof guests to the main chair lift station in Hintersee and naturally picks them up again in the afternoon. Special ski pass rates are available for Waldhof guests. For more information simply ask at the reception.
Ski courses & ski hire
The local ski school has a great success record with both children and adults. Please ask at the hotel reception for price details. We can also recommend the private lessons offered by the school which can be booked at the hotel reception. If you're not planning on bringing your ski equipment with you, don't worry! There is a ski hire shop at the foot of the chair lift station offering a wide range of excellent equipment at competitive prices.
You can leave your car in the car park. A daily ski shuttle bus brings you to and picks you up from the main lift station in Hintersee. Waldhof guests also receive preferential ski pass rates. Simply ask at the reception for more information.
The ski area Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen
This is a challenging skiing mountain just 7 minutes drive from the hotel. A regular local bus service runs every hour from Fuschl to the gondola lift station. The pistes are suitable for intermediates and more advanced skiers. The 4-man cable cars take you to the summit at 1560 metres above sea level where you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding Salzkammergut Lake District and the Dachstein Massif, there is also a great panorama sun terrace just next to the lift station. Waldhof guests receive special rates on the cable car. The slopes can usually be skied from December to April and the mountain restaurant Berghof is open throughout the season serving delicious traditional dishes and refreshing drinks.
And that's not all!
Major, more well known ski resorts such as Flachau or Obertauern are also literally "just round the corner". An hour's drive will take you deep into Alpine skiing country where hundreds of skiing kilometres are waiting to be discovered.
