St. Michael's Church in Mondsee.
The film setting for Maria and Georg von Trapp's wedding.
Whilst on your discovery tour of The Sound of Music Country a stop-off at the beautiful lake-side town of Mondsee is an absolute must. St. Michael's church is situated right in the middle of the town centre and was used for the wedding scene in the Sound of Music film. Next to the church you will see the monastery building. The courtyards of the monastery now belong to a hotel centre but you are free to walk around them and soak up the atmosphere. The church itself is quite impressive and houses 7 beautiful side altars carved by Meinrad Guggenbichler, a famous Swiss sculptor who dedicated much of his life to beautifying the monastery here in Mondsee as well as the church.
The village is an absolute delight for souvenir shopping and traditional Austrian coffee and cake in one of the many cafés. Closer to the lake there's a great playground for children. You can find out more information about Mondsee under: www.mondsee.at
